Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia, 2012

Byron Bay, Oktober 2012, am östlichsten Punkt des austalischen Festlandes. Nach zwei Wochen Sonne und tropischer Hitze im Norden in Queensland wird das Wetter ab Brisbane europäisch. Australischer Frühling, auch wenn wir zu Beginn der Reise 700 Kilometer weiter südlich in Sydney schon mal 30 °C hatten.

Byron Bay nimmt kühles Regenwetter gelassen. Der kleine Ort ist voll mit Surfern und Travellern, die eher wegen der Wellen als wegen der Party hier sind. Hektischer Eventtourismus findet woanders statt. Trotz roter Flaggen an den Stränden sind einige Unentwegte in der Bucht. Der Rest vertreibt sich im kleinen Ort die Zeit, trinkt irgendwo zwischen Pizzerien, Cupcake-Cafes und Surfläden ein relaxtes Bier. Es wird schon wieder freundlicher. Und wenn nicht – Wellen gibt es immer.
